She added Bharat Natyam to her training-stream from the age of 8, a traditional South Indian dance form accompanied by the classical Carnatic music. She mastered various Bharat Natyam recitals (viz. Alarippu, Jatiswaram, Sabdam, Varnam, Padam, Tillana, Sloka and Dashavatar).
Suparna was also moved by many other contemporary dance forms that includes the fusion figures of Pandit Uday Sankar and aesthetic expression of classical-folk forms.
Suparna arrived in Wellington in 2005 and was teaching dance in voluntary capacity in the local community for around 6 years before deciding to start Mayur Dance Academy. In 2012 Suparna started Mayur Dance Academy only with 11 students, and is now the biggest Indian Classical dance school in Wellington. She is the only teacher in New Zealand who teaches both Bharatanatyam and Kathak, two entirely different forms of Indian classical dancing.
Mayur Dance academy prides a syllabus and an examination system with certificates and mark sheets.
